Choose or purchase a Franchise

To begin the certification process, you can either choose an established franchise or purchase one in the country where your project is located.
Go to franchises

First submission of the project

In this stage, the project developer or the franchisee announce the RED Carbon Standard that they have a project which they want to certify. They only need to send an email to [email protected] with this announcement.

Initial Assessment

In this stage, the RED Carbon Standard requests to upload some essential information and documents to create your project's initial assessment.

You will be asked to provide the following documents:

  • KYC
  • Franchise power of attorney document (template)
  • Identity Card of the company owner or stakeholder
  • Project Administration Empowerment
  • Company fiscal certificate (if applicable)
  • Standing certificate (if applicable)
  • Bank statement

The RED Carbon Standard will review these documents within 21 working days. If additional information is needed, we will contact you. Otherwise, you will be notified once the initial documentation is approved, and will be ready for the next steps.

Upon approval of the initial set of documents, the project developer completes the following documents, which are then uploaded into the Certification app on the RED Platform, there is an expected waiting period of 30 working days to receive a decision from the certification body:

  • PDD (with “Initial Assessment" chapter completed)
  • Emission Reduction/Removals Calculation
  • Corresponding Adjustment
  • Request for Exemptions (if necessary)
  • 4 photos and 1 video showing the project location and activity
  • SDG Tool (Sustainable Development Goals)

Project Listing

To list your project in the Registry, the franchise will require specific project details, including:
  • compliance information.
  • program details.
  • carbon avoidance information.

In accordance with the data from the SDG Tool, it's crucial to acknowledge that you must select the identical three SDGs from the SDG Tool (UN Sustainable Development Goals) when registering your project.

  • Additionally, the franchise will create a dedicated project landing page, so please provide a minimum of 4 images and 1 video to showcase your project on the RED Platform

To complete the listing process, you will need to pay the Opening and Maintenance Account Fee and the Project Listing Fee.

Once you upload the payment proof, your project will be listed in the registry, and it will receive a unique project ID.

After listing your project on the RED Platform Registry, a public consultation process will take place within 30 days, as per the RED Carbon Standard. For projects with more than 20,000 estimated carbon credits, a stakeholder consultation is also required by the RED Carbon Standard.

Please note that the public consultation section is a mandatory part of this phase.

Validation, First Monitoring and Verification

Once your project is listed, you have the option to proceed with the Validation and Verification stages either together or separately by choosing which of the options is more suitable for your project.

Validation

You will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Project Design Document (PDD) for Validation;
  • Emission reduction/removals calculation (the estimated emissions quantities as they appear in the validation report);
  • SDG Tool (estimated values for indicators);
  • Request for exemptions (if necessary);
  • Validation report.

All Project details shall be validated by an Independent Validation and Verification Body approved by RED Carbon Standard. This network of local and external auditors will provide an extra layer of security for the rigorous process of carbon credits approval.

A Validation Fee is required, and you must provide proof of payment. After submitting the documentation on the RED Platform Registry, the RED Carbon Standard Team will review these documents within 30 working days.

Verification

The project must follow the First Monitoring period for which the actual data is collected, and the emissions calculated.

You will need to provide the following documentation filled with actual data collected from the project:

  • Project Design Document (PDD) with the First Monitoring chapter completed;
  • Emission reduction calculation (the calculated emissions quantities);
  • SDG Tool (real values for indicators);
  • Request for exemptions (if necessary);
  • Verification report.

All Project details shall be verified by an Independent Validation and Verification Body approved by RED Carbon Standard. This network of local and external auditors will provide an extra layer of security for the rigorous process of carbon credits approval.

A Verification Fee is required, and you must provide proof of payment. After submitting the documentation to the RED Platform Registry, the RED Carbon Standard Team will review these documents within 30 working days.

Validation, First Monitoring and Verification

If your project already has data collected during its activity, you have the option to complete the Validation, First Monitoring and Verification stage simultaneously.

This means that all of the documents mentioned above must be filled with the actual data collected and then validated and verified by an Independent Validation and Verification Body approved by RED Carbon Standard.

By choosing this option, you will be required to pay the fee dedicated to this stage, which is the Validation and Verification Fee. After submitting the documentation to the RED Platform Registry, the RED Carbon Standard Team will review these documents within 30 working days.

By following the standard guidelines and requirements thoroughly, you are making sure that you have a successful project certification journey.
